Super busy August 08

The month started with a wonderful visit from Joanna. We ate, shopped, visited Al Johnson's and galleries. The time was way too short.
Peninsula Music Festival with 9 concerts, Tues, Thurs, and Sat. for 3 weeks filled our schedule. Lina, the wife of concertmaster Valentin Zhuk, and I spent a Door County day. They live in Holland but are native of Russia. Their son Sasha also plays violin with the Festival Orchestra.
Sr Irene is one of my favorite poets, so we had a pot luck saying good-bye party for her. Earlier that day Irene had a mishap and sported a black eye and puffed lip.
Twenty Brinks attended a Brewer's Game at County Stadium in Milwaukee. It was a hot clear day. We tail gaited, and watched the game from the way up family section (cheaper seats and no beer served). The Brewers won! We saw the Sausage Race, five persons dressed up as Italian, Bratwurst, Hot dog etc. Don was one of the winners of the family betting pool.
Sharon Rotz came up here to present a workshop for the Trillium Quilt Guild called Log Cabin Quilts with Attitude. She stayed with us and was a most delightful guest.
August has ended and most of the tourists have gone home. Things are quieter.

Visit to Linda and Ray

At Aztalan State Park in Lake Mills, the Wisconsin Dells Indians performed.

This park has the largest remnants of an Indian community in the Midwest.






Uncle Bill came with us. He and Linda are shucking corn in front of some of their gorgeous flowers. Their dahlias are over 5 ft tall, the whole yard is beautiful.

I brought 4 pts of blueberries along, pie crusts, and recruited Andy to help make a pie. It was delicious. Then on Sunday night Andy bought the fixings, strawberries and blueberries, and made a special pie all alone. Double delicious. Master chef in the making.

We visited Olbrich gardens and the special butterfly exhibit. Went to Chasen museum of Art and the Contemporary Art Museum. The sculptures were especially notable.

Of course we had to get bagels, 4 dozen--should last a while.

Carla and Federica are visiting and Federica made her first blueberry pie for Grandpa. It was yummy. She also gave us a mini concert on her violin. Carla helped Don clean his workroom and put in his new exhaust system. What did I do? mostly supervise.

A busy week, a shophop on Monday, in case you don't know what that is, you go from quilt shop to quilt shop until the day is done. Poetry on Wed and I have a new one for you. It is for our quilt-poetry exhibit.

Flying Geese

We’re Rick and Gracie flying to Paducah
to visit the American Quilt Museum.
Quilters made us noteworthy, even with
the negative publicity up north.
Just because of our cigar-shaped
leavings, humans shun and shoo us
from our favorite hangouts.

We’ve been together going on
eight years, raised a lot of young ones.
Most have survived the hunter’s blinds.
Mother Goose had a positive impact
on our reputation, but where did
Goosey Goosey Gander come from?
We don’t especially care to be called
part of a gaggle either. We just go
our way, try to avoid harm, and can
expect a few more good years.

Another Beautiful Day in Ephraim

Dan's enjoying the gorgeous scenery. Their last day here, and it will be sad to say Good-bye. Went up to Charlene's Gallery where I have three pieces, Turtle Ridge Leather Gallery and of course Tannenbaum Christmas Shop (that's always a favorite.

It's strawberry season and yesterday I made Don (and all of us) a strawberry pie. Last time I made one was in 2006, but when we go to Sarasota that too is strawberry season and we get fabulous strawberry pie. I froze berries for making jam later.

I'm learning to take pictures, upload them to the computer, put them on this blog, and manage our website. Seems easy when Dan and Bobbie are around. I took lots of notes, but I know I'll have to yell for help.

Missed the Quilt

Went to Washington Island yesterday and then to Rock Island. Steve and Jean Clementi from Racine were on all of the voyages and chatted about St John's, the zoo, etc. Main reason to go to Rock Is was to see the quilt made years ago of the 6 state parks in Door County for the centennial. I was one of the quilters, made the Peninsula Park square. Every two months it moves and now is at Whitefish Dunes. Missed it.

Bobbie has taken to carving and has a Santa finished, Dan turned a terrific bowl on the lathe. Those two are great fun to have around. I made chicken tortilla soup, used Dan's chiles and it was plenty hot for us, he added twice as much.
Don is attending carving classes twice a week, some projects are very good, others questionable, (his words). Next meeting he has to bring goodies, and has volunteered me to make some of the cinnamon rolls, probably the one and only time I make them except for Xmas. He got some thick boards from friend Harvey and will concentrate on bowls in the months ahead.
Bobbie and I bought the same fabric, she in Ely, Minnesota, I here, same taste. I was going to give her a wall hanging made of it, she had the same idea. Just like Carla bought me a book by Jodi Piccoult, and I had the same one for her. Are we telepathic? Linda, how can we duplicate that?

My First Blog

Today is the 9th of July! We are calm now. Just Bobbie and Dan are here. On the 4th we had 17 people here for a cookout. Don Jr. did 2 turkeys in his turkey fryer.
We had to the parade in the morning at Baileys Harbor. It was especially long this year. Fireworks at Gil's Rock were exceptional for a small town. The traffic getting home was horrific!
Geetha and Tom, Missionaries from India, came on Saturday. Bobbie, Sharon, Dan and I helped them solicit funds at the local Churches. We had breakfast at Al Johnson's then they were on their way.
Bobbie and Dan went fishing on Monday and had a good catch. Three huge salmon. They were delicious!
So tonight we go to Peninsula Players and thats good.
